Dieter Jansen
I started as a Metallurgist in the armaments industry, then joined an R&D institute which consulted to the casting and forging industry. This led me to a position at an automotive wheel factory, initially in design, then production management.
In 2002 I realized that technical improvements only take us so far, and discovered John Maxwell’s book “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork”. We studied 4 of Maxwell’s books, where we raised our level of leadership skill, thereby enabling our team to run the 250-man foundry at world-class standards. I was then appointed as HR Director.
After 2 years of executive management, I decided to move into the consulting arena. In 2005 I joined a consulting firm involved in Business Process Management projects. In 2010 I became a shareholder in the business and built up the Western Cape regional office, and a representative on the company’s Executive Committee. During this time I trained all the senior consultants in leadership and influencing skills, and regularly lectured for the University of Cape Town’s IT postgraduate diplomas, covering topics around the need for soft skills in the “real” world.
One aspect was always clear: Development of people on a character level, translates to all that they do and impacts their results. It is inspiring for me because I’m able to contribute positively, and because I learn also. I joined the JMT in 2013 to develop further as a leadership coach, trainer and speaker, and to pass these learnings on to family, colleagues and clients.
In 2014 I founded Dieter Jansen Group in order to follow this passion and pursue the people development arena full time. My hands-on experience in the blue-collar, research, executive management and consulting environments, within multiple industries, is proof that the Maxwell leadership principles are powerful and applicable at all levels. My coaching style can be described as intuitive, calm, patient, faithful and integruous.
The Dieter Jansen Group has developed a few programs, ranging from a subscription-based mentorship program, to high-end 2-day retreats for individuals and corporates, normally held in game parks in the South African bushveld.
