Mukarabe Lysiane Makinto-Inandava
Born in Burundi, East Africa, Mrs. Makinto grew up in impoverished circumstances, yet graduated with a BA in English from the University of Bujumbura.
She fled the 1993 genocide to Kenya. Resisting entering refugee camps, she became a UN Liaison Officer coordinating Refugee Relief post-1994 Rwanda genocide.
In the USA, she achieved a Masters degree and brought advocacy to the UN. In 1999 she addressed the General Assembly on HIV/Aids crisis. In 2000 she helped prepare the historic “Millennium Development Goals” for the Eradication of Poverty.
Co-founder/CEO of AMAHORO INTERNATIONAL, an LA-based Non-profit, she empowers Burundian refugees in Uganda through leadership training and healing projects for self- sustainability. Married and mother of three, Mukarabe uses her life journey as the voice for African orphans, widows, and refugees. Joining JMT/ IMC she intends to heighten her influence on justice and peace for healthier communities.
