"Where there is love, the skin of a flea will cover 5 people." Mama Mukarabe, Sr.
Growing up in a poverty-stricken-widow-led household in rural Burundi (East Africa), the last born of seven, I was told my best bet was to marry a soldier. I rebelled.
Upon graduating with a BA in English, I fled a genocide. In exile, I was told my place was in a refugee camp. I rebelled, and found a job with the UN and later emigrated to the US. The only one in my family to obtain a Master's degree, I became the voice, the advocate. War and AIDS'orphans, Refugees, and the abused are Me-I am them. Co-founding Amahoro (Peace) Int'l, Inc. I empower them to remain a people, to achieve their God-given dreams.
I joined JMT to best tell their story, our story; to be a mentor and a leader.
