It's 2014. I turn 40 this year. My current existence is comfortable yet unremarkable. I have a decent job, not a career, although I have been a mechanic for what seems to have been a lifetime. I say job because I go to work to get paid so I can enjoy my life outside of the garage atmosphere. Work doesn't come home with me. I only perform repairs in the 9 to 5 realm. It's not that I'm lazy, I just never even really liked working on cars and trucks, but, that is just how I ended up. In 1994 I bought a hot rod '68 Camaro because of a girl, one thing led to another and 20 years have gone by. I received an education at a local community college to fix the car when I broke it putting the pedal to the metal on wet pavement and wheel hopped it pretty bad, causing much distress inside the rear axle. Back then I didn't think anyone would want to work on and fix an older model. I was so wrong, naive to say the least, but wrong nonetheless. So I did it myself. Now I figure since I went through an internship, I'm making money, I might as well ride it out and keep going. I'm really good at fixing things and at least its not boring and repetitive. Second the fact that I don't have to sit down in one spot all day. Trying mechanical engineering for a semester out of high school taught me that pretty quick.
So here I am. Working towards a retirement. Doing the best I can. I go above and beyond my job title to help the others in the shop. I make lists, collect data on questions that are asked from year to year and forgotten each year, making organization sheets and vehicle cheat sheets. Not much room for advancement with 21 techs with more seniority than me and only 4 supervisor positions, should one of them leave. Ever. Might as well make the best of it...
And then....a supervisor position opens up. I take the exam, go through the interview, and get the promotion above 6 other technicians! I am now promoted to supervisor with a mere 8 years on the job and passed by others with 15-20 years of seniority! I am the youngest supervisor ever, and made it with the least amount of time in!
I now study personal development, I currently work as a coach in an booming MLM, and just joined the John Maxwell Team to start public speaking to share how I ended up where I am today. From living a life full of dreams to living a life worth dreaming about in 2 short years. There are NO LIMITS!
I know, there seems to be something missing......that is where the story begins! It's all in the details my friend! Want to learn more? Let's talk!
