Certified Warriors at Ease teacher: Teaching Yoga and Meditation in Military Communities, RYT200
Kathy is a Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Certified Hospice Palliative Nurse (CHPN). She has 23 years’ hospice experience, with Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio, one of the leading hospices in the country participating in the We Honor Veterans (WHV) Partnership Levels, having received Honorable Mention recognition at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), WHV Five Year Anniversary Celebration, October 2015. As the Veteran Care Liaison, Kathy coordinated the development of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton’s We Honor Veterans, Partner Level 4. We Honor Veterans, a collaboration of the NHPCO and National VA, offers community hospices throughout the country the education, resources, and sharing of best practices to provide veteran-centric end of life care for our country's veterans. Partnering with Dayton VAMC and Wright Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center, Kathy became knowledgeable about PTSD, and undiagnosed PTSD at end of life (EOL). Documented studies were lacking in the nursing literature and medical literature on intervention for PTSD at EOL. With her own practice of yoga, and the benefits of yoga for athletes, she became curious about the benefits of yoga for PTSD at EOL. Kathy is a Registered Yoga Teacher, and Certified Warriors at Ease Teacher, teaching Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Meditation in Military Communities. She developed a program addressing Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD) experienced by Healthcare Professionals.
Kathy has presented nationally and locally on topics related to caring for our country’s Veterans at end of life, and authored a published article titled “One Hospice’s Project in Honoring and Caring for our Country’s Veterans”. A recommendation in the article’s conclusion is further investigation into effective interventions for PTSD at End of Life. Kathy has a special interest in the healing and recovery from traumatic experiences, Veterans with PTSD, Moral Injury, and Soul Injury, as well as all traumatized populations, and Healthcare Professionals who provide care and service to this population.
Kathy is available to speak as a key note, workshop facilitator, retreats, and small group trauma sensitive yoga class, and trauma sensitive meditation class, on college campus, schools, and children groups, senior living communities, Veteran Courts. Health Care Professionals, Caregiver Support Groups.
